Multitasking: Cell Phone Consciousness
I drive an 18 wheeler, coast to coast. As you know truckers often talk on the CB radio and sometimes talk on a cell phone while driving. I've missed plenty of exits while on the phone but very seldom while talking on the CB radio to nearby drivers. I'm convinced the problem is not trying to do two things at once but trying to "be" two places at once.We use different parts of our brain to determine "where?" than we use to determine "what?" There can be many "whats" anywhere but it's damn near impossible to be two places at once. The "what" part of the brain multitask much better than the "where" part. I believe that that's why talking on the cell phone while driving is much more dangerous than talking to someone in the car, or even nearby on the CB radio. So... HANG UP and DRIVE !
